What is the cost of a citizenship certificate application? The answer is $75. You have to pay online using a valid credit card or a Debit MasterCard or Visa Debit Card.
To pay your fees, go here and use the drop-down menus to choose:
- What country you’re paying from – as an example, we decided Hong Kong SAR
- Your type of application – in this case, Citizenship
- What you’re paying for – in this case, a Citizenship certificate (proof of citizenship)
Click on the blue Get payment instructions button, and you’ll get instructions:
On how to pay when your application is online – you pay your fees directly within your online application.
You can also pay online when applying on paper – there is a button for instructions for this option.
Or you can apply on paper and pay at a Canadian office abroad. Again, there are instructions as well for this option.

How much does it cost to do it online?
The cost is the same, $75.
How much does it cost to do a paper application?

- Mailing costs – we recommend you use Express Post; an approximate cost is $16.00 to $20.00.

FAQs
Can the fee be waived?
If you are a Canadian citizen travelling from Afghanistan or from another country, you may be able to get your fee waived for proof of citizenship, as well as for passports and other travel documents or PR travel documents in the case of permanent residents of Canada in the same situation.
Also, if the mistake was done by the government and then you can request a amendment within 90 days.
Can I drop this off at Service Canada?
No. Service Canada handles a number of services like Passport applications. However, it does not provide citizenship certificate services.
